Donnie and Marie

Today's Friday Flashback is brought to you by one stressed-out cookie! And that cookie is me - an Oatmeal Chocolate Chip that's been burnt. Anyway, enough about me - let's talk about Donnie and Marie.

I chose Donnie and Marie because I wanted to remember the era of no responsibility. And that era to me is synonymous with Donnie and Marie. A time when I waited patiently each week for the Donnie and Marie show and a time when I slobbered on my Donnie pillow as I slept (the one that said "May Tomorrow Be a Brighter Day.")

So "C'mon Marianne" - "My Name is Alice and My Boyfriend's Name is Andy" Let's "Don" our nicest "Deep Purple" socks and remember that we're "a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n roll. "

Rock on.
p.s. I tried to buy the Donnie and Marie Box Set once but Spouse wouldn't let me!

Remember the record player that we used to play this album on over and over and over? I can still envision those days. Those were really great times. Oh, that is where Utah's need for anti depressants started. I mean, what Utah family could live up to that? tons of kids that sing together in harmony, look so happy, they make Norman Rockwell's painting look like meth users.

Ask Jamie who J.R. is.

I believe I know who JR is... but I don't have a cassette player. Or do you have in on 8 track? I don't have one of those either.

I just love that you spelled his name with an ie instead of the usually Donny spelling!

Donnie and Marie were a bit before my time, but I remember hearing stories of how it was my brother's favorite show and he would always run and get his potty chair and set it in front of the tv before the show started, so there would be NO interruptions.

I remember my mother forcing us to watch "Donny & Marie" because they were from Utah (We were forced to watch anything from Utah). Just like cleaning my room and doing my homework, I now have an aversion to Donny & Marie.

Donny and Marie---J.R. and Jamie....THOSE are some really old timers!
I remember having the Donny poster in my room hanging over my sisters bed..she had Bobby Sherman over mine...that is so you can see them when you are talking to your sister in bed at night. I saw Donny in the SLC airport last year. HE IS STILL HOT! Or my eyes are older!

So the Brooklet has brought up an interesting strategy... do you think that Donnie and Marie shows will help potty train one of my Yahoos?

Vera - Donnie is so hot. Even with young eyes.

Lois - Are there OTHER shows from Utah? Just curious. I thought that one was it. But movies... there are a bunch. Were you forced to watch Footloose?

We had to watch the Miss America pageant and root for Miss Utah (though Miss Texas ALWAYS won). I'm trying to remember if there were others...

Oh, "Footloose" is too hard for me to watch now. It reminds me of the Utah I used to know -- before all the land got eaten up by Starter-Mansions and tract homes.
